Master of arts

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Students looking to complete a graduate program with an emphasis in Bible and Ministry may find the MA program exactly what they need.


The student’s prescribed course of study in the Master of Arts Degree is as follows: 


  • Biblical Language Studies - 6 hours (Minimum requirement)
  • Applied Research – 3 hours
  • Readings in Biblical (or Theological) Studies – 3 hours
  • Ministry Electives - 15 hours
  • Graduation Workshop - 3 hours
  • Master’s Thesis - 6 hours

mASTER OF MINISTRY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Master of Ministry Program is a 36 credit hour program designed to enhance the effectiveness of those currently engaged in vocational and bi-vocational ministries. 

 

(Upon completion of this degree all 36 hours can be applied toward the Master of Divinity Degree (the M.Div. is a 90 hour program).  A second option is to use the degree as a basis for enrolling in the Doctor of Biblical Studies (DBS), or a PhD in Biblical Studies.)


The student’s prescribed course of study in the M.M. degree program is as follows: 

  • Master of Ministry Practicum - 6 hours
  • Applied Research – 3 hours
  • Readings in Biblical (or Theological) Studies – 3 hours

DOCTOR OF MINISTRY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Doctor of Ministry is an applied research degree designed for pastors and other ministers.  The purpose of the program is to enhance the student’s spiritual and professional skills by conceiving, designing, and carrying out an applied ministry project.   Significant ministry experience (generally 3 years or more in that area of ministry) is required. 

 

(Prerequisite: Candidates for the program must have at least a Master of Divinity or equivalent of graduate level theological training from an institution recognized by Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary.)

 

PROGRAM COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Graduation Workshop – 3 hours

Required Tract Courses – 12 hours

Biblical Language Studies – 6 hours (Minimum Requirement)

Submission of Prospectus (5-10 page description of the proposed project which includes what the students intends to do, how he intends to do it, and how he will evaluate the effectiveness of it upon completion) Project Execution / Project Report – 9 hours

DOCTOR OF BIBLICAL STUDIES

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Doctor of Biblical Studies program is designed for those who seek a doctoral degree with flexibility that allows the student to guide their research toward their interests within biblical studies. The program is 15 credit hours less than the Ph.D. program, making the degree more affordable , and more accommodating to the busy minister or professional.


The student’s prescribed course of study in the Doctor of Biblical Studies Degree is as follows:

  • Graduation Workshop - 3 hours
  • Biblical Language Requirement – 6 hours (Minimum Requirement)
  • Applied Research – 3 hours
  • Readings in Biblical (or Theological) Studies – 3 hours
  • Elective hours – 21 hours
  • Dissertation Project – 9 hours

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Doctor of Philosophy is a 60-semester hour terminal research degree in theological, ministerial, or religious studies which is designed for those who wish to have the most thorough training possible to fulfill God’s calling.


The academic challenges of this degree program require that the applicant have at least a Masters degree (51 hour minimum).

STUDY CONCENTRATION OPTIONS
The student may choose from three separate concentrations within the Doctor of Philosophy degree: Theology, Advanced Prophetics, and Biblical Studies.
